Automatic Gauging of Carrier Bearings

Proximity sensors can be used to detect the accurate placement and angular deviation of studs and bearing systems in a carrier. As shown in Fig. 1, a proximity sensor 1 is placed in position above the stud 2 holding a bearing 3. The proximity sensing device 1, which is commercially available, generally comprises four sensors 4 (Fig. 2) equidistantly placed around the periphery of the sensing device 1. The diameter formed by the sensors 4 should be approximately equal to the diameter of the stud 2, as shown, for the most accurate results.
