Optimal Designs of Instrumented Pens for Signature Verification

Recent work by other investigators (1-4) explores signature verification through accelerometer measurements. A previous article (5), on efficiently recovering the signature motion of an instrumented pen, describes two configurations of imbedded accelerometers simultaneously meeting five appropriate goals for such measurement systems. The present design approach, by dropping an inessential aspect of these prior goals, offers new configurations for achieving signature motion recovery with greater efficiency. Specifically, the previous fifth goal required certain system constraints for easier numerical computation, whereas the analysis set forth in publication (6) permits the necessary calculations without such special requirements.
