This system involves the use of a universal control for a wide variety of CRT displays which is programmable to provide a variety of character fonts as well as the appropriate sync signals for the selected CRT display. This approach represents a change over the conventional approach of using dedicated or special purpose control hardware designed for each particular CRT display in which both the character font and sync signal are hardwired and thus fixed.
