The IBM Series III Copier hot-roll fuser consists of a hollow, cylindrical core covered with a (room-temperature vulcanized silicone) rubber sheath. Discolorations on the surface of the rubber have been correlated with areas of reduced adhesion to the metal core underneath. Such areas can wrinkle paper and cause unwanted toner transfer.
