Print element relative motion needed for noncoded information ink jet printing is to attach the paper to a rapidly rotating cylinder adjacent to the printer elements. To effect fullpage coverage, relative motion in the axial direction is also incorporated; thus, the track of the print elements relative to the cylinder is helical. With paper wrapped "squarely" around the drum, each printed line is slightly inclined to the paper edge, with the inclination (helical pitch) depending on the resolution and the number of print elements.
