Recently there have been numerous articles describing the importance of phase insensitive ultrasonic wave detection, particularly for medical applications. To achieve this goal, considerable work has proceeded in the development of an acoustoelectric phase-insensitive detector, generally consisting of a CdS crystal which under proper (and somewhat cumbersome) conditions produces a voltage that responds to a momentum transfer to the front face of the crystal.
