Keyboard And Printer Code Conversion
An overlapped system memory code format is utilized for interchangeable 88
and 96 character keyboards and print elements for a multitude of countries.
Each character key on keyboard 1 represents a dedicated partial address
along line 2 to keyboard read-only store (ROS) 3. For example, the key for the
character "a" on an English language keyboard is in the same location for either
an 88 or 96 character keyboard. The remainder of the address is applied along
the country line 4. The output of store 3 along line 5 is a standard code to
system memory 6.
For printing from memory, standard codes are output along line 7 to system
interface 8. The output of interface 8 along line 9 is a partial address to printer
ROS 11 and is dependent upon an indication of the print element being used
along line 10. The remainder of the address to store 11 is along the country line 12. The reason for a code translation by interface 8 is to reduce the size of store 11. Otherwise, storage locations would be required for both 88 and 96 character
print elements. The output from store 11 along line 13 is to printer 14 for
controlling printing according to the country and character print element being
