Abstract

The above figures depict an angular readout device which measures the flatness of a surface (for example, magnetic media, tape or disk). The apparatus is based on the well-known moire fringe technique. In Fig. 1 the angular readout device has a knob 10 which is calibrated over a predetermined range. To determine whether or not the examined surface is within a particular range, the knob is turned to the desired calibration and a group of lights, such as light-emitting diodes, will inform the observer whether the examined surface is acceptable or not.
