Multilayer ceramic green sheets normally have closely spaced via holes which are subsequently filled with a refractory metal conductive paste. It is a common practice to support the punched green sheets on a backing sheet to prevent excess paste from being forced through the vias during the screening operation. After the paste has dried, the backing sheet is removed.
