In a daisy wheel printer, a character is printed by driving a hammer to strike a type finger against an ink ribbon and a print paper immediately after a desired type character is properly positioned opposite a print position. The technique described herein provides a fine positioning of the finger at the print position after a conventional coarse positioning.
