Q-Switching Dyes For Lasers In The Wavelength Region 0.9-1.4 Microns

There exists a continuing need for stable dyes which show intense absorption in the infrared region and which possess laser Q switching capability. The development of new eye safe lasers operating between 1.5 and 2 microns is hampered by the lack of passive Q switching materials. They presently have to be Q switched by electro-optical devices, which are much more troublesome and far less reliable than reversibly bleachable dyes operating in the passive Q switching mode.
