Hard Coating For Magnetic Surfaces

A thin hard protective coating of silica or silica-alumina can be deposited onto the magnetic surfaces using the deposition process described in the IBM Technical Disclosure Bulletin 16, 2369 (December 1973). The protective coating can be thin, pore-free and wear resistant. Further, the protective coating does not interfere with the magnetic characteristics of the covered material.
