Abstract

The problem of a dielectric refrigerator is first to increase the field on the dielectric in order to polarize the defect dipoles, while exhausting the evolved heat to a high-temperature reservoir; then, to decrease the field, using the cooling generated by the depolarization of the dipoles to cool the dielectric and to absorb heat from a low-temperature reservoir.
