A leadscrew follower structure is provided for leadscrew driver apparatus which, unlike the conventional leadscrew follower, is not urged into direct grinding relationship with the leadscrew. Rather it "floats", i.e., move freely in both the lateral and vertical direction. The leadscrew follower has a pair of lateral arms which contact opposite lateral sides of the leadscrew. These arms are tensioned towards each other and, consequently, towards the intermediate leadscrew by a common spring member. With the present leadscrew structure, linear carrier motion is produced with substantially no backlash.
