This article discloses a simple, reliable and cost-effective relay controlled DC motor starting and braking circuit which senses, during the braking operation, when the 60 Hz AC line voltage goes through a zero crossing. The sensing of at least one zero crossing is sufficient to extinguish substantially any arcing across a DC power supply in the circuit, thereby protecting it from a short circuit condition.
