In a complex, miniprocessor-controlled electromechanical device, e.g., a xerographic copier/printer, failures of the processor as well as of associated input and output devices are self-diagnosed. The diagnostic tests are automatically invoked. In the present case, some electromechanical devices require manual intervention to be tested completely. Therefore, two sets of diagnostic tests are required.
