This transport carrier is of simple construction and requires a minimum of
commercial components to give it a means of motion and stopping capability.
The drawing shows a transport carrier consisting of carrier housing 1, motor 2
suspended on far end (not shown), drive angle 3, top plate 4 and clamp 5 for
mounting/locating and holding a fixture or product, a means 6 of air input for air
cushion on base plate 10, guide pins 7, flag 8 for sensing position, and a groove
9 in base plate 10 for traverse guidance.
In operation, after power is turned on, air is supplied to air inlet 6, creating an
air cushion between carrier housing 1 and base plate 10, allowing motor drive
wheel 11 to maintain friction contact against drive angle 3.
The signal starts motor 2. The transport carrier is free to travel from start
position to the next position guided by pins 7 in groove 9 and stopped by flag 8 at
the desired station.
By reversing motor rotation, the transport is given travel capability in both
