Visual Indicator Control System
The visual indicators, i.e., the light-emitting diodes (LEDs), located on the
front panel of a telephone operator console are arranged in matrix fashion.
The M rows and N columns of the matrix correspond to the M rows and N
columns of an associated memory MEM which is permanently loaded and up
dated by the central controller CTR of the telephone system.
Memory MEM is cyclically read out under the control of a free running
oscillator OSC, an address counter CNT and a decoder DEC, the read out
information being used to control the LEDs in the visual indicator matrix.
Each indicator is controlled with a frequency of 1 kilohertz which allows any
twinkling phenomenon to be avoided.
This implementation permits the use of modern and large-scale integration
technologies and a decrease in the number of drivers to control the indicators.
