Margin scales 10 and 12 are made of a clear plastic-like transmitting material with silk screened onto the surface material which creates a surface disruption, and is either translucent or has had surface disruptions created by etching into the surface, the marks and numbers indicating the escapement positions for a typewriter. At the end of the scales, two light bulbs 14 and 16 are mounted into a bulb base 18. Bulbs 14 and 16 are selectively controlled by switch 20, which in turn is physically or mechanically linked to the pitch selection control 22 which normally constitutes a pitch selection lever.
