The drawing depicts a section of a vortex transportation scheme. The section may be part of a closed-loop register. Pulses of the generator current I(G) produce a pool of vortices which are stable in the superconductive metal plane. A transfer pulse I(TF) transfers one vortex at a time into the transport pattern. The transport current I(T) causes the vortex to move into a corner. A reversal of the transport current forces the vortex to the opposite side and thereby moves it along the transport pattern into the next corner. The presence or absence of a vortex in a particular corner designates one bit of binary information.
