In a multiple voice-coil hammer assembly for a bar and helix printer, the magnetic structure comprises spaced front and rear magnetic plates 2 and 4 with elongate intermediate bar permanent magnets 5 and 6 (Fig. 1). Front plate 2 has upper and lower rows of apertures 23 for receiving the extended end of magnetic cores 1 which are screwed into rear plate 4. Nonmagnetic guide bars 3 on front plates 2 maintain concentricity of the cores 1 within the apertures 23. Actuating voice coils 25 wound on bobbins 7 are slidably mounted over the end of cores 1.
