Abstract

When a gaseous discharge display device has been fabricated, it is essential that the panel be tested in an operational mode to determine the operating margins of the panel. The parameters requiring test are the maximum and minimum values of sustain voltage V(S), write voltage V(W) and erase voltage V(E). In view of the large number of cells (which may exceed one-half million) in a panel, a manual cell-by-cell test is, for these six parameters, impractical. Using an automatic test with a scanning technique and search algorithms, three of these parameters V(S) max., V(W) max. and V(E) min. may be tested on a multicell basis, but a cell-by-cell test is required for the remaining parameters, V(S) min., V(W) in. and V (E)max. Using standard search algorithms, six scans of the panel are needed to obtain a 0.1 volt resolution.
