Energy Dampening Device For Disk Drive Machine

The dampening device in the illustrated disk drive machine includes resilient roll 200 (Fig. 1) disposed on eccentric shaft portion 202a of control shaft 202 and engageable with stationary ramp 204 (Fig. 2). Manual control knob 206 is fixed on shaft 202, and knob 206 when rotated in one direction is thus effective to reduce the bowing of bowed leaf spring 208 carrying collet 210 for clamping magnetic disk 212 between collet 210 and rotatable drive hub 214. Upon disk-disengaging opposite rotation of knob 206 and shaft 202, spring 208 tends to snap knob 206 back into its disk disengaging position with possible injury to the operator, and resilient roll 200 coacting with ramp 204 slows the disk disengaging rotation of shaft 202 and knob 206.
