Concept Search - What can I type?
For a concept search, you can enter phrases, sentences, or full paragraphs in English. For example, copy and paste the abstract of a patent application or paragraphs from an article.
Concept search eliminates the need for complex Boolean syntax to inform retrieval. Our Semantic Gist engine uses advanced cognitive semantic analysis to extract the meaning of data. This reduces the chances of missing valuable information, that may result from traditional keyword searching.

Developer's Electromagnetic Gate
An electromagnetic gate is provided for a magnetic brush developer of the
type described in the IBM Technical Disclosure Bulletin 18, 20482049 (December
The magnetic brush developer unit 11 of an electrostatic copying machine
includes a magnetic brush developer roll 13, which applies developer material to
a rotating electrostatically charged photoconductor drum 15. The developer
material, which includes carrier beads and toner particles electrostatically
adhering thereto, is transported to magnetic brush roll 13 by a conveyor roll 17.
The conveyor roll has a stationary magnet assembly 19 located thereunder
which attracts the carrier beads to the surface of conveyor roll 17. Conveyor roll
17 rotates from a sump area 21 toward a location adjacent the magnetic brush
roll 13, whereat the developer material is transferred from conveyor roll 17 to
magnetic brush roll 13. After development of the photoconductor, the developer
material returns by way of path 14 to be enriched with toner from dispenser 16.
The enriched developer mix then drops into sump 21 as it flows through an
adjustable developer gate 27, at a relatively low velocity, again to be picked up
by conveyor roll 17.
The developer is turned off, i.e., the flow of developer mix to the
photoconductor is interrupted, by energization of electromagnet 30. This
electromagnet includes a coil 31 and two pole pieces 32 and 33 which define an
air gap 34. The aluminum developer ho...
