Abstract

The disclosed wire feed assembly is attached directly to an E-gun electron beam) evaporation source so as to enable one of the crucibles of a movable double-hearth E-gun evaporator to be automatically refilled with wire source material at the end of the final deposition cycle. The second crucible does not require refilling after each run. Previously, the wire feed assembly was mounted on the vacuum system baseplate, and when the E-gun assembly pivoted to do the second evaporation, it either allowed the source material to slip out of the feed hole in the crucible or it pulled so much wire material from the feeder spool (to allow the assembly to complete its travel) that the wire would kink or bend.
