A system control bus (SCB) is used to transfer data between an IBM Series 1 microprocessor and software addressable subsystems located within a digitally controlled manufacturing system. The SCB is basically a remote set of DI (data in) and DO (data out) registers connected to the Series 1 via a bus. Data is transmitted bidirectionally between the registers and the Series 1 by a well-defined set of bus protocols. The SCB acts to physically place the DI and DO registers of the Series 1 at the user's application.
