With the advent of electronics and microprocessors in typewriters, the spectrum of functions performed by the operator will widen. In order to carry out some of these functions, the typist will need a clear and quick readout of the carrier position. Since the electronics in the typewriter will control carrier position, this carrier information can be utilized by a digital display to give a visual indication of the position of the carrier. In other words, this digital display would function as a digital margin scale.
