Metal oxide metal structures on oxide metal or on semiconductor may be operated as two terminal devices by designating the oxide metal or semiconductor as a collector and permanently shorting it to the second metal serving as the base. The resulting device manifests dynamic negative resistance characteristics up to the near infrared. The device is shown in the figure below.
