A star driver circuit 1 capable of driving up to four parallel fan-outs 2 is shown in Fig. 1. The first interferometer D(1) is switched by a control signal A. When device D(1) is switched, it then switches its neighbor D(2) by nonlinear current injection via resistor Rs(1). Next, the following devices D(3) and D(4) are switched in a similar manner (like dominoes). The output current is proportional to 4I(g), and hence it is sufficient to drive four parallel fan-outs 2. A series resistance of R(T) approximately RL divided by 4 is included to reduce reflections if the signal returning from the load devices arrives after the star driver is reset to its zero-voltage state.
