The IBM Technical Disclosure Bulletin of August 1976, at pages 808 and 809, describes a copier's cleaning station having a highly charged, rotating metal cylinder 18 which operates as an electronic toner precipitator, as a result of the electrical field between the cylinder and its opposite-polarity, metal ground-plane housing member 13. The cylinder is cleaned of this toner by a scraper blade 20.
