A class of presentation aids - including bar charts, column charts and symbol charts - is characterized by stretching, placing and otherwise distorting a basic unit symbol. For example, column charts can be viewed as a multiplicity of instances of a basic, common rectangle. This unit symbol is stretched proportionately to the data desired to be represented and translated to represent the given sequence of the data.
