Abstract

Because sets of test cases are very similar within a function but vary greatly between functions (i.e., there is no universal test case language), a test case generating program which is flexible enough to utilize the similarities and cope with the differences can save much manual work. The test case creation process can be automated by requiring the designer to- define the variations for a function; - define the test case format; - relate the variations to the elements within the format of the test case which vary; and - assign values to the elements which vary. Test cases are usually defined by variations which are related to each other through matrices. A matrix does not give a good visual picture of the relationships between variations.
