A stored computer system is implemented with a microprocessor having an ALU function register to provide additional microcode flexibility and reduce code requirements. F register 20 (Fig. 1), implemented with latches of the type shown in U.S. Patent 3806891 is a multipurpose function register for controlling ALU functions performed by ALU 50 and for controlling coupled shifts of storage data registers SA 70 and SB 75. This arrangement permits greater microcode flexibility and provides a single control arrangement for controlling two functions.
