Abstract

The channel adapter enables a processor utilizing cycle steal or having direct memory access to communicate with an IBM System 360 or 370 device with a minimal amount of software. Under software control, the source or destination of the data to or from the device can be selected. One path is to cycle steal (CS) in or out of the processor main store (MS). The other path is to transfer data to or from the direct memory access (DMA) feature of the processor.
