This article describes an apparatus using a microprogrammed controller for adjusting photo-emitter intensity to compensate for mechanical and environmental tolerances. Such an apparatus has application, for example, in a device for detecting multiple feed errors (such as double thickness documents) in the currency transport of an automatic banking terminal or cash issuer.
