Substrate lines 12 and substrate pads 14 are deposited on a substrate 16.
The substrate 16 is selected for its transparency to optical radiation.
The chip 20 is aligned with the substrate 16 so that the chip pads 18 are in
registry with the substrate pads 14.
The light 22 emitted from the laser 24 passes through a lens system 26, light
impinges on and through the transparent substrate 16. The lens system 26
assures focusing of the light 22 onto the substrate pads 14.
The absorption of the light generates localized heating, causing welding of
the substrate pads 14 to chip pads 18.
