A problem arises in magnetic recording when a record member, such as a flexible tape or disk, moves transversely to the plane of the record member. The head arm support must enable the head to faithfully follow such movements for maintaining a desired head to medium. In particular, the force exerted on the head, transverse to the record member extent, should be a constant.
