Test Device On Line Interface
The device shown above is to be used in a data transmission system to
detect whether a failure is due to the line or to the receiving device.
The data signals received from the transmission line on interface LI are fed to
receiver R and to a similar circuit L used for checking purposes. The data
recovered at the output of receiver R are sent to the data terminal equipment
(DTE) and the data recovered at the output of L for checking.
In normal operation, control circuit 1, which comprises two three state circuits
TS1 and TS2, is set in the high impedance state through test control signal (TCS)
on input 2.
If a failure is detected by comparing the outputs of receiver R and circuit L,
circuits TS1 and TS2 are set ON and a data test configuration (DTC) is sent to
receiver R and to circuit L through input 3. If no error is detected, it is deduced
that the failure was due to the line; otherwise, the receiver is incriminated.
