To eliminate the formation of undesirable intermetallic compounds between the metal coating of contact rolls and the aluminum layer of metal paper, a rhodium-coated contact roll is provided. In addition to being suitable for electroplating because of its high melting point, rhodium, similar to cobalt, palladium, and platinum, has little tendency of reacting with aluminum, thus not forming intermetallic compounds.
