Abstract

In gas panel fabrication, dielectric-coated conductor arrays on glass plates are sealed about their edges and filled with an ionizable gas, and display capability is provided by selective discharge of orthogonal conductors, a sequence of such discharges producing alphanumeric display characters. In the conventional plate-sealing process, individual seal rods are positioned on the lower plate together with spacer rods, the upper plate is then placed on the lower plate under pressure, and the assembly is then placed in an oven and heated until the seal glass reflows, thereby sealing the plates. This method of fabrication requires individual spacer rod alignment as well as the maintenance of the four individual spacer rods in position during the sealing cycle.
