Printers used in a computer system require controls to allow printing on the last form even though the end of forms was detected previous to printing the last form. End-of-paper detection is used to prevent further printing when no paper is between the print hammers and the print platen. The end of paper detection is implemented by a special microcode routine in an I/O controller attached to control the printer.
