This article proposes to overcoat a video disk used for archival storage with a TFP (thin film particulate) layer which will allow the recording of updateable information to be directly associated with the archival data. Such a magnetic layer is sufficiently transparent so as not to interfere with optical reading of the video disk. The TFP layer can also serve as a protective overcoat, eliminating this step in video disk manufacture. The TFP layer can also be put on the opposite side of the disk and accessed from that same side.
