Abstract

In Viterbi decoders with rate R=k/n for trellis-encoded data transmitted over a noisy channel, the following operations are performed during each cycle for each of the 2 possible states: a) A new metric L must be determined for each of the 2/k/ paths leading to the respective state, using as input the last-received n data symbols Y and the 2/k/ previous metrics of the respective paths.
