Abstract

A photolithographically patterned stripline 10 of an amorphous magnetic bubble film shown in Fig. 1 was subjected to a magnetic bias field beyond its saturation magnetization value. The bias field was then decreased until strip domains 11 were formed as shown in Fig. 1 (sketched from a photograph). When a ferrofluid mist is applied to the film 10, the ferrofluid particles collect at the domain walls, creating a series of channels 14 (or tracks) (Fig. 2) which will overlie the amorphous film. The ferrofluid is allowed to dry, maintaining the configuration as pictured, a permanent propagation pattern is created, the dimensions of which are determined by the strip width of the domains for a particular bias field.
