Abstract

The properties of magnetic bubble domain garnet films can be changed by laser beam annealing. These films are perfect single crystals, and remain so after annealing, although the site distribution of the gallium atoms in the garnet films are changed by the annealing. This is a rapid annealing, followed by a fast quenching, which can only be achieved by a laser pulse. If the laser beam intensity, duration and focus spot size are changed, the magnetic properties of the treated garnet layer can be changed in a controllable way.
