The notion of a region of addressability is introduced. Regions permit a capability-based system to support, via hardware, the safe and most common cases in which the storing of capabilities is desired while prohibiting, without supervisor intervention, the cases where 1) system integrity might be compromised; 2) pointers (capabilities) become lost to the system and make it difficult for object space to be reused.
