A method is provided for resolving digital position encoder quadrature outputs into a single logic signal that can be shaped and integrated to give an analog velocity signal. The objective is to derive a logic signal whose average value varies linearly with velocity and whose output should be a solid low logic level for zero velocity and a solid high logic level for velocities at or above the tachometer's maximum linear range, as shown in Fig. 1.
