Urethane foam rolls widely used in paper drive mechanisms often remain in contact with other rolls or surfaces, i.e., in compression, for extended periods. For such use it is critical that the foam material have high compression-set resistance and that its properties be stable over a wide range of temperature and humidity. A narrow range for the coefficient of sliding friction is also necessary.
