The method of characteristics  has been successfully applied to the analysis of ideal transmission lines. This is possible because for the ideal lines the characteristic impedance (Z(o) = (the square root) L/C) is real and the time delay (T(o) = (the square root of)L/C) is independent of the frequency of the input signal. The equivalent circuit using the method of characteristics is shown in Fig. 1.
