According to conventional methods, the simulation of telephone lines for measuring the performance of a modem is based upon the generation of specific line impairments in the telephone line by means of manually adjusted devices. The main drawbacks of the method are the interaction of the adjusted devices that produce long setting time and a low accuracy in the results.
